PRISMA
The name Metamorphosis Dance has become synonymous with refined, solid movements and a constant, relentless search for precision, equilibrium, elegance, enigma, and vanguardism. Their new creation, Prisma, is presented as a sensorial, seductive experience beckoning reflection, which researches and explores in search of the light beyond its boundaries.
Concepts such as identity, commitment, strength, and transformation are the cornerstones of this new performance by Metamorphosis Dance. How to open a window for recovery? In which way can a dramatic experience change our becoming? This vanguard contemporary dance company continues down its inexhaustible path of choreographic research with the creation of a new piece this 2022: Prisma is a challenge carried out on the occasion of inaugurating the Memorial Centre for the Victims of Terrorism in Vitoria-Gasteiz, whose grand opening took place on the 29th of September.
With precise and startling movement, dynamic and engaging staging, this piece shows a commitment to take the expressive possibilities of lighting and music to their limits. Once again, these elements become the protagonists of a performance created by the artistic tandem formed by the much-acclaimed choreographers, directors, and dancers, Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich. With basis in its exhaustive research, this new creation by Metamorphosis Dance offers an artistic approach to the victims of terrorism in a universal manner.
Prisma is a brilliantly suggestive and empathetic piece, about resistance and resilience in dealing with conflict and how to overcome it, told through a universal tale always striving to look forward. Like a prism that transforms the light that traverses it, with this new creation, the vanguard team explores on stage, through natural evocative elements, and with physical and energetic choreographic elegance, how such an experience can transform us as people. Subtly, Prisma asks how, despite the terrible trauma suffered, human beings can become stronger, more empowered, and more determined in their fight to keep going and construct a better society.

In the words of Iratxe Ansa, “it was important for us to transmit the message of ‘going forward’. This has nothing to do with forgiving or forgetting, but with transforming in some way and moving on.” Furthermore, she says, “we carry out exhaustive research beforehand to find the place which we should focus on. Finally, we opt for the recovery, but without forsaking the pain that preceded it. We consulted specialists, who told us it made a lot of sense.”
